Speed

Speed is your ability to run from here to there in the fastest time possible. What is the secret to running faster? It’s simple. Improve your explosive power and jumping ability and you will run faster. According to Coach Tom Shaw, “If you can increase those two numbers, you will run faster. No matter what kind of form you have, you will run faster.” 

Four Phases of Speed:

  1. Reaction: responding to a stimulus and begin movement
  2. Start: get the body moving from a stationary start
  3. Acceleration: increasing speed quickly
  4. Maximum Speed: the fastest we can move
